If anyone can get 630 CHED in Edmonton, the daughter is on the radio right now on the Dave Rutherford Show right NOW. She is being interviewed and is speaking very plainly. She definately is not informed of correct information on all the issues, or more correctly she won't see any other viewpoint. She is a well spoken young lady.

memorial ettiquette for worldy people??????
by concerned mama ini have been away for a few days, so forgive me if this has already been covered.. am i (a non jw) supposed to refer to the memorial in any way talking to a jw?
for example, would i say "happy memorial", or could i ask if they had a nice celebration?
since it is the one and only big day each year is there some way to acknowledge it in a friendly type conversational way?

Thanks for your help. No doubt I would have put my foot in my mouth and said "Happy Memorial" or something, maybe "Merry Memorial". Wait...no, Jesus know he is about to die, so merry would be pushing it. If I expect the JW boy I know to be pleasant and not overtly critical about our holidays, then I have to be the same about something reasonable like the Memorial. (reasonable compared to the blood issue, shunning, etc. where I am very blunt)
It is so hard when you have to model the behavior you expect out of others. Sometimes, sarcasm is so much more fun. Sigh...

Hawk,
I called the Dad this evening, but just got his answering machine. I left a hopefully discreet but supportive message (I hope). Maybe I shouldn't have left anything, but I was such a bundle of nerves that I kind of babbled. I just want him to know that people care.
I hope I did the right thing. -

I didn't see any cards at the local Hallmark store?
Help, please?

Hawk,
No, it's not a local call, I am a couple of hundred miles away. In any case, I would call anyway, except I specifically asked him to let me know if he wanted further contact, and I haven't heard a thing. I don't want to intrude if he doesn't want it. -

Eating Blood.
by refiners fire ini was just reading the sept 15, 1960 watchtower,an article entitled.
"the sanctity of blood".
the article was mainly about eating blood and listed numerous very nasty practises such as leaving blood in meat to make it heavier, (hence less "meat" for your money)and not draining blood out of carcasses quickly enough.. this prompted a thought.. gods law on blood being so important to witnesses, and the practises of butchers indifferent to gods law being what they are..... why does the organization allow its members to eat meat purchased from the "world"?.

Were they to be serious about not eating blood, kosher meat would be the obvious alternative. Kosher meat is treated so that minimal blood remains in it, but because of the extra time and labour, it must be more expensive (I have never bought it, so I don't know). However, I have eaten Kosher steaks several times, and they were completely flavourless with a more pasty texture.
Having to refuse a blood transfusion is a fairly rare occurance in most people's lives, but eating and the flavour of food is an everyday issue. Can you imagine not being able to eat in most restaurants and having to pay a premium price for what meat you do eat? I have this feeling most people wouldn't stick to that diet for long.

Stupid sign?
by outcast ini think simon should have a button we can push with a "stupid" sign on it.
that way if some poster ticks us off, we can push the button, and maybe stop flame wars?.
> stupid people should have to wear signs that just say, "i'm stupid".. >> that.

by concerned mama inaccording to a news report, a certain private school in victoria, australia was recently faced with a unique problem.
a number of girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom.
that was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints.

According to a news report, a certain private school in Victoria, Australia was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night, the maintenance man would remove them and
the next day, the girls would put them back. Finally the principal
decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it was to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to clean the mirrors. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are Teachers, and then there are Educators. -

Update on my parents
by Mulan inprincess and i have been posting (a couple weeks ago) about the ongoing 'soap opera' involving my mother, her fall, and where she will live.
three weeks ago, we put her in a group home.
she is nearly 90, and falls a lot, but has an extremely sharp mind, and is a real "going concern".

Mulan,
Woman, you have courage!!!!! I really respect what you are trying to do. If it works, terrific, if it doesn't, well, deal with it then. I know as our parents age it gets sure gets difficult, and sometimes we have to put differences aside and deal with what we can as long as we can.
Do what you can, but don't be afraid to change the arrangements again if it doesn't work. You are giving it your best shot, and no one should criticize you.
